I have never had a hamster chew those wooden blocks or shapes. They are flavorless, and scentless.
Milk bones work good, and are healthy for them. They are hard enough to work at grinding the teeth down, too. Just get the smallest ones you can. Nothing chewy, nothing coated in some sort of sauce, etc. Just plain, straight, dry dog biscuits.
Another thing I tried recently, and found it to my ham's liking, is something called Cosmic Chew Sticks. They are popsicle sticks in bright colors, covered on one end in a hard gritty thing. They are semi-flavored with fruit, and non-toxic to hamsters. The hard gritty stuff is ground seashell, and ground limestone. I don't know what it is about them, but my ham's went nuts for them. You know how a cat goes after cat nip? My ham's were running around like nuts for about 20 minutes after I put the sticks in thier cages. 1 stick per cage, 3 cages have 1 ham each, 1 has 3, and 2 cages have 2 hams. So far, they've had those sticks for a week, and none have chewed through them all the way.
The sticks came in a pack of 18 or 19 sticks, which cost me $4.49. It doesn't say how many on the pack, and I've used 5, which comes out at 19, but that seems like an odd number.
Anyway, hope that stuff helps you out some! Toss the wood chunks, and try one of the other two things.

supply her cardboard. My gerbil chewed each little thing yet she loved cardboard. do not supply her cardboard that has colourful stuff on it, like a cereal field, yet try giving her bathroom rolls (empty ;p). My gerbil would chew a bathroom roll to products in a unmarried day it changed into so lovable! do not use paper because it isn't problematic and could no longer help her teeth. Are the toys timber? try getting her a timber hamster abode, she would like that. caution: about the bathroom rolls, for the reason that she is poofy earlier you supply them to her cut back a slit through the bathroom roll so it ought to open up so she would not get stuck!!!

It may be that he is simply not intersted in them. We have had some that chewed only certain toys or carrots, and others that chewed anything and everything!
You can't make them chew- maybe clean them and save them for the next one or give them to a friend for their's... after boiling them- don't want to spread anything... and try other toys...

believe it or not, most hamsters will not give much attention to those chew toys sold for them in petstores. but you're right to want to get hershey something to keep his teeth gnawed down. because as you probably know, a hamster's teeth grow continuously throughout their lives, and chewing | gnawing is a natural, necessary activity for them.
what many hamsters WILL chew on are hard, plain dog biscuits! you can break them up into smaller pieces. be careful though in the kinds you buy. you only want plain dog biscuits with ingredients of flour and water~~ no garlic or pepper or meat products. petco actually sells this very plain type of dog biscuit in the bulk section.
another type of biscuit you can use are parrot biscuits, sold in the bird section of petstores. i actually use these and my hamsters really enjoy them.
either dog or parrot biscuits are hard enough to give your hamster the chewing activity he needs, plus a treat at the same time.

I agree with the lady who says give him dog biscuits (tiny ones) but he may not ever get it. My baby hammie (Pepper) I got when she was very tiny and she doesn't get what the wheel in her cage is for--all she does is pee and poop in it! So maybe he'll get it, maybe he wont

Maybe he just doesn't know what they are for.
You could give him carrots to chew on.
