Sorry! Right when I read the word boonies I had an instant answers. Cingular offers good coverage-in major metropolitin areas, once your 5 minutes out of one you lose the network. The only network actually proven to have excellent coverage in the boonies is Verizon. They are even planning on puting their first out of this world tower on the space station. Me nor Verizon is actually sure if it will work but it probably will. It is only really a test. But I recommend getting a phone on America's Most Reliable Wireless Network, Where there's no limits!

Talk to your friends that have cellular service and try to borrow one of their phones or have them come out for a visit and use it. The boonies is sometimes a good place to be if you don't want to answer the phone. If you live in the Bay Area I can probably tell you if it will work there. Just a city or street would do. No I'm not a crazy person or a stalker I work for Cingular as a field tech.

If talking at home is of the utmost importance to you...
Then the best thing you can do is the trial and error method (and of course, hopefully without signing up first...lol)
Start talking to your friends and family about who they have, then see for yourself how their phone works in your house... Specifically in the room you would probably talk the most in.
It doesnt matter how many minutes you get or what the price is if you cant take advantage of it ---10,000 minutes for 5 dollars a month would do you no good at all if it didnt work where you are.
So again, get with others around you and see for yourself. Sometimes the maps dont provide you with what you really need to know.
Otherwise, Cingular should be a good starting point for you... They have the best return policy in the industry, a full 30 days, and if you do it with in 3, you dont even pay the activation, and believe me, you'll know within 3 days if it doesnt work at home!

i take advantage of Cingular in New Jersey (no longer far north from Maryland). I frequently get a reliable signal, don't have dropped calls (I used to continuously drop calls when I had sprint service in Pennsylvania). a huge income of Cingular is that you could carry ahead unused each and every time minutes for upto one 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. i imagine that Cingular is reliable.

check with each providers website & see upon their coverage map.
it should prompt you to enter their zip code & indicate what coverage if any is there.
don't even try t-mobile if it is not a major city.
it wont be worth the effort. also check with your neighbors & see who they have.
they can easily tell you what works best in your area before you buy
