we were thinking of planning a trip there, or around there for halloween time next year...any thoughts?

Salem is a lot of fun, no matter what time of you year you go, but especially at Halloween. Make reservations as soon as possible, things fill up fast for that time of year. If you have time while you are there, I'd also suggest driving the "North Shore". It's amazingly beautiful, especially in the fall.

Oh yes! Salem, Mass. Is amazing. Its so beautiful you have to check out some of the witch shops they are crazy but loads of fun. Check out the grave yards too, you can find all the names of the accused like Rebecca Nurse on stones made into benches which is really cool. I think if you go during halloween you will have a blast!

It is a madhouse around Halloween so make hotel reservations early.
One thing to do is visit the Peabody Essex Museum in the downtown area. It has a great collection of sailing ship items, nautical paintings from Salem's prime era, and artwork brought back home by sea captains who went to China for trading. It even has a complete Japanese house hand made inside the museum in the old style by Japanese craftsmen who hand built it there about a decade ago.
One good place to eat close to downtown is the Nathaniel Hawthorne hotel which has a nice restaurant in its lobby that has early bird specials that make it affordable.

Salem does a Halloween weeklong celebration........great place to visit!!!
