I just got a government job. they offered to give me a moving company to move my stuff to the new city. but I requested that I find my own moving company because they are much faster and more efficent than the company the Govt hired. The Govt is going to reimburse me for the expense incured. The only problem is that i am not sure whether the moving company I hired is registered. my question is this; is it illegal to do buisness with a comapny that is not registered.? thank you

If I was you, I would make it a priority to find out if the moving company you hired is registered or not registered.

You don't say what country or state that you reside in. I am sure that it does not make any difference where you reside.

All trucking just about any place in the world has to be registered to act as an interstate transporter. Moving companies just can't move goods across state lines without the proper documentation.

Plus I would think that should something go wrong, or they are breaking government transportation law, you are a government employee and you may find that your employer will refuse to pay for your moving expenses.

My suggestion is that you ask your employer what is their policy if the mover is not registered. Even if you did not work for the government why would you sign a contract with any trucker before you check out their background and read all the fine print in the contract.

Don't ask the mover if they are registered as they may just lie to you because they don't want to loose the money/contract.

Sincerely would not want to see you be penny wise and pound foolish.
