Sometimes horses will not show any signs of an ulcer. If they do have an ulcer or starting to develop one, sometimes being grumpy and not wanting to be groomed or touched in abdomen area. Not all ulcers will result in a "bleeding ulcer" that will result in anemia and blood in stool. and yes things like gastroguard will help an ulcer and heal it but you need to have this determined by the vet. gastroguard is expensive!!! things like cimetidine tabs can help an ulcer also, but before you give anything to your horse, check with your vet. You can have the vet scope the horses stomach. the horses breath may have a different smell to it due to the large amount of acid being produced in the gut. stress and training, weaning and many other factors can cause an ulcer, but horses are hearty.

the other thing that may be a little controversial is if you can have someone that does acupuncture come out and examine the horse if they have an ulcer or other "stomach problems" they will show positive on the examine. I have seen this for myself with other horses and my own. good luck

Check it's gums. A horse gets anaemic because of blood loss from the stomach ulcer. The gums become such a pale pink they're almost white instead of pink. The horse will have dark manure from the blood passing through the intestines. Get a vet. They will be able to tell from a blood test that will show if the horse is anaemic.

Since horses can't throw up, it might have blood in it's stool. if it's in pain like he's collected, he'll be doing anything from just lying down to rolling back and forth. If you have good reason to think your horse has an ulcer, it's time to call a vet.

poor appetite, weight loss....and acting sluggish and acting like he has abdominal discomfort....an endoscopy is the most accurate and common means of diagnosas in a horse......ulcers are found sometimes in high performance horses or horses that are very high strung, see a vet if these signs are happening...good luck

appears to be yawning, even mild colic, horse just isnt itself.

Have the horse scoped is the only real sure fire way to find out.

Stress, change in environments, separation anxiety is just one of many things that can cause it.
