I would like opinions for lip colour. Age: 46, Haircolour: Chestnut, Eyecolour: brown with gold flecks: Skin colour: fair, very slightly on the pinkish side - tends to get red in the sun easily. I would appreciate any help especially from cosmetologists, I have tried for years to get a colour/brand that looks right, tired of wasting my money. The look I am after is classic/classy, yet fine to wear anytime. I guess I want a signature colour. What I don't want is anything faddish. Thanks for any input:)

I would love it if anyone could give a brand name and colour name so that I can get an idea of what I should look for online.

If you suggest a red, could you tell me what kind of shade? Ex: blue/red, orange/red, clear red, etc.,

Try Russian Red lipstick (not the gloss) by MAC. It is the most beautiful red there is. It has a hint of blue.

Check your skintone. Something two shades darker than the skin on your face, and not the skin on your hands, since your hands are a bit darker.
You sound like you have a naturally light skin tone, but darker hair. So a soft bronze pinkish shade, or a more light pink bordering on red berry color, not too dark though. Rimmel has some really good shades in this area, though I don't know the exact names.
Usually you should get two shades, a light pink and a darker one if you can't get one in-between that you like. Put the light one on first, then lightly touch up your lips with the darker shade to give it more depth. It's a signature look that only you'll have.
Good luck.

Try a really nice pink, a medium shade, not too frosted, or too bright. Any thing too frosted makes pale skin look even lighter, and draws attention to the fine lines in more mature lips. Too light looks inmature, and too dark is too dramatic for day time.
When picking a lipstick, start with the basics:
A) A lip liner as close to your natural lips as you can find
B) The right shade of lipstick. Pick a high quality lipstick that will not bleed, and will keep your lips soft. After all you are wearing it every day, if you spent $30, and it lasted six months that is really only about 16 cents a day. Also picking a higher quality lipstick will save you money in the long run because you can go to department stores and try them one, and see if it looks right before you buy.
C) Get at least one gloss to dress up your lipstick a little bit on nicer nights out. nothing is sexier then a full pout.

also my little shopping trick, I go to the department stores and pick out shades I like, try them on, and when I find something I can't live with out I get the color name and go on Ebay to see if I can't buy it for a fraction of the price.

Go by your lip color and teeth if your lips are red and teeth very white you can go with red will look great. If your lips are are any other color and your teeth aren't their whitest of your life go with a mauve -pearled will help your teeth appear whiter also and should go good with your skin tone--fair right--even to a medium. You can wear it day or night and add clear gloss if you feel like being shiny.
Good Luck

I think you should try neutral/nude tones. May I suggest Lancome's Rouge Absolue "Creme de Marron", or "Sensation 610" from Clarins. These are very flattering on most complexions, they have a great creamy texture - not gooey or sparkly!
Just go to the department store and have fun with testers:)
If you need a long-lasting lipliner to match, I would highly recommend Lancome's "Bronzelle".

I would go with a medium shade... Too light will wash you out... too dark will make you look older. I would go with a mauve color, something natural looking.

with fair skin almost everything lookes good but you might want a very fair light pink lip GLOSS
almost no-one wears lipstick any more and lipgloss makes your lips look fuller!
