To assert an opinion means to state it.

"He asserted his opinion in a no-nonsense manner."

Being assertive, means to stick to your guns. I am doing it this way, and I'd like to see you stop me!

2. To defend or maintain (one's rights, for example).

so if you have "asserted" on something, it means that you have defended or stuck on what you believe..

nope. It means state your position/ or opinion. Alot of time its used in papers when talking about the opinion of experts.

"Dr.so-and-so, of such-and-such university, asserts that....."
