So what if two men or women love each other?

The political base that votes for them hates gays. One of the tricks of getting elected as a Republican in America is to find something to beat up.

Republicans have the "strict dad" mentality. They see anything that doesn't conform to their narrow minded world view as weak. They hate weakness in anything, especially in leadership.

Now gays represent the epitome of weakness. Environmentalists, free speech advocates, and anyone advocating any form of a compassionate approach to life are seen as weak.

In their minds, weak = evil. Compassion = weakness. Democracy = weakness. Justice = weakness.

The bottom line is that they are afraid of things that are weak. Gentle things mean they might actually have a moment of weakness themselves. They see weakness also as feminine. In their hypermasculine eyes, they'd be women if they didn't adhere to their stereotypical world view.

Also, the base of homophobia is rooted in the attack on human sexuality which dates back to the origins of the Judeo/Christian religion.

Human sexuality links us to nature. It's a reminder that we are animals. Anything that reminds us of that fact is considered evil in the eyes of Western thinkers.

Homosexuality occurs in many species not just humans.

Regardless of that fact. In a free society, if people choose to live a gay lifestyle they should be free to do so. No harm to American civilization will happen if we let gays marry.

It's a weak argument morally, philosophically, and civically. However, the forces that sponsor the bigoted viewpoint are very well funded by right wing Christians.

Right wing Christians vote Republican. So, the GOP panders to their bigotry.

I could write a book about this topic. But there are many out there already.

I have hope though. I think the majority of Americans are indifferent if gays get married. I really don't think most Americans care.

What matters is that enough cared to vote for the GOP in '04. What other wedge issue will they use in '06, '08, and beyond.

We got to organize, inform, and activate people who care about freedom in this country, or we're going to remain at the mercy of the religious right and the GOP.

Hope that helps.

What does being gay have to do with freedom of speech? It was the liberals that started the strictures on free speech by starting the wonderful world of political correctness censorship. And you don't have freedom of action. Nothing wrong with people being gay as far as I care but some people take a strict religious stand on the issue. And why do liberals put the environment ahead of people?

I concur on that Conservatives are very selective, ie Conservatives generally don't other people burning American Flags. I'd say let them burn it. Also Conservatives aren't really against the environment. I think Im in a similar position with them, I think its too quick to say anything and evidence is shaky about Global Warming. Also Affirmative Action is reverse racism. I think we shouldn't have marriage license becuase i don't remember reading in my American History class that Good talked to the government about marriage licenses. I shouldn't have to ask anyone if i want to marry someone. Only person is God and thats not the government.

I think its just fine that two couples: each couple (one female and one male) love each other. Why shouldn't two couples get together and have fun? I think everyone should be happy and gay. I like my environment clean and love to breathe fresh air. I believe in freedom of speech and plenty of action. I am a conservative and proud of it. Sometimes I find myself a little middle of the road. It just depends on what is going on in the middle of the road.

Affirmative Action is is another form of racism. Redefining marriage is a bad idea. Conservatives are not against the environment or freedom of speech.

Not all conservatives are against these things. Look at Neal Boortz he's for free speech and for gay marriage. and to be for the envoirment doesn't mean you have to believe in global warming.
I personally do not believe that there is global warming but I am for energy conservation.
