It simply has to be a trip on the Orient Express. First class of course. Treat her and yourself to a whole new wardrobe befitting of the occasion.
Have the best of times.
What a nice husband you are. I hope she appreciates it. I'm sure I would!!
If she doesn't want to go, let me know!!

Are you flying through Dubai? I have taken many an R & R from Afghanistan. I did one to Spain but the problem is the you have to fly from Dubai to Paris and then to Barcelona or where ever you are going. It was nice though. I really enjoyed Seville and Costa del Sol area. I think if it is your first trip together though you don't want to get stressed by going some where that is going to be difficult and speaking from experience you want to be able to relax on your R & R. I have made the mistake of traveling to much and be anxious to get back to Kabul for a rest. I think you should try and pick some where nice and romantic and book a hotel and everything and just relax and sight see. South or France is good. Rome and Florance are really nice.

If your not set on Europe then I will say that me and my husband took our first holiday together in Dubai when we were working in Afghanistan where we met and we really enjoyed it.

If you get a chance, please email me because I would love to know what org or military you are with in Afghanistan. Guessing American if you get 2 weeks.

I any case have fun.

Timing is very important. Some citys/areas can be a little too hot and busy at times during the year.

In general, for a very romantic two weeks in Europe, I'd visit Italy. Mixing country and city living(hiring a chauffeur for city visits).

In no particular order:
- Venice 2 days
- Pisa 1 day
- Florence 2 days
- Tuscan luxury countryside villa 9 days

Can I recommend Scotland! Its a beauty of a country! Plenty to see including the Loch Ness Monster, historic city Stirling where movie Braveheart was based, bigger cities Edinburgh & Glasgow that are 30 & 40 mins from Stirling! The scenery is fantastic!
This is the country that Prince Charles had his honeymoon in and Madonna got wed here! Michael Jackson tried to buy Stirling Castle! The G8 summit was held here and it has the best golf courses in the world!

Why blow money on europe. Take her to a bank, mine. Let her watch you make a very generous deposit into my account! You can get a free ballon there sometimes and other promotional stuff. If you visit a downtown branch you can take in the sights, shop, and have a nice lunch afterward.
She'll see you are not only rich, but a guy who cares about the working poor. Now THAT's a great vacation!

I went to New Zealand with my wife last year. I hired out a helicopter to take us to this remote mountain top with fantastic views. We sat there and had a few drinks and a little picnic.... and (cough) the thing adults do....
It was great to be in such a beautiful area, just the two of us. I'm sure you could do similar in Europe.

Why not try a luxury cruise? They're not all filled with fuddy duddies nowadays and you'd get to see a lot of places without putting in too much effort. Radisson are fab:

If you want relaxation, Greece. You can't help but relax there, especially if arriving to an island by boat versus plane. You could choose a romantic island in Greece. I love Mykonos but that may not be what you want. Santorini is another choice.

Congratulations.

Wow- there are so many possibilities!!! What kinds of things do you too like to do? You could go wine tasting in France, Beer tasting in Belgium, hiking (or skiing) in Switzerland, art admiring in Italy, hot spring soaking in Iceland.... depends on what you like!
Have a wonderful time- you deserve it!
