For some people, they may enjoy working with children; however, the idea of being with large group of children can be daunting for some people. As a former college instructor who had to do my student teaching at the primary and secondary level, I would have to say classroom management is the most challenging thing that instructors face.
Therefore, if teaching is not the avenue you want to go, consider school counseling or being a school psychologist. More than likely, you work with children on a one-to-one basis or a small group basis. Usually, the educational preparation for this field means going as far as getting your masters degree in either social work, child psychology or school psychology. In some cases, you may need to consider getting a PhD.
However, if you enjoy instruction, but you don't want to deal with a class size of 20 or more student, consider working as a private tutor for a Kaplan or Huntington Learning Center. Even better, you could probably start your own business.
