I think in the future we will need to. We are growing into a largely populated country now so there is more to defend. I don't think we should send anymore people overseas to wars because we are already stretched out to the max.

Like they say there is a lot more civil unrest in the little islands etc surrounding us so it is better to prepare ourselves for it. I think, as in past wars, that we do not have adequate people to defend our home soil should we be attacked. So frequently we only have the reserves left - nothing against them.

I just think it's a matter of looking seriously. We have so many people living in Australia now - not to mention people coming over seeking residency.

I think if they brought in the thing where doing a year armed forces training after you get out of school it would be a good idea for a couple of reasons.

One is to discipline the children that run amok today.
Two is that they may actually enjoy it and stay in the army
Three is that then most people will have some experience should we ever need to defend ourselves.

As someone who's brother in law is in the army I do think we need larger forces. Not to send huge amounts over to other wars though but for the good of the protection of our country. They don't only just fight wars - they help in disasters etc.

No why should it? I am Australian and i think we have enough troops over their fighting a war that we don't have much to do with, Expect for our allegiance with the USA.
