It is not because the wheel is in a bind, it seems there may be an electric issue as to why the key wont turn.

The key is supposed to have a little diode near the end of the key. It is an anti theft deterrent. either you key is missing this or if you can see it has one it maybe defective. The diode looks like a piece of raised metal with black plastic around it

There is a resistor mounted in the key blank to confirm that the correct ignition key is being used to start the engine. GM uses about 15 different resistors as a theft deterrent. But this is only checked when the key is turned.

The key is not allowed to turn if the engine is in gear. It has to be in neutral or park, so check this. There may be a loose wire from the shifter to the ignition.

In some cases the brake needs to be pressed before the vehicle will start, but I think the key will turn anyway.

If it is not an original key, then it is not cut properly.

There may be something in the lock itself. Try vacuuming it out, and then try an electrical parts cleaner spray that you can get at Radio Shack. I don't think it is a good idea to use WD-40, as the residue may alter the resistance sensed from the key, and when the key does turn, the engine won't start.

;-D Modern technology is not the DIYer's friend! If you have to have it repaired, be aware that the screws inside the steering column are 'anti theft' types and need special tools.

only suggestion I'd have is the key and tumblers are jammed. or somehow you got something in your key switch keeping you from getting the key in all the way. Do you have the right set of keys? This is not a common problem in a vehicle this new.

I believe your key may have an anti-theft transponder built into it. If so, it may be not communicating to the vehicle [or the vehicle may not be communicating to it] anti-theft system for some reason. Also, if your battery is dead it may not allow you to turn the ignition for the same reason [anti-theft system].
