first and for most the minor pentatonic scale....most comonly used scale PERIOD in rock music....then learn the major pentatonic scale. now if ya really wanna be cool learn the blues scale and incorporate that into your playin....anybody can play grunge....but an alt/blues mix....now thats cool....not completely original, but still cool. the E minor pentatonic is below just move it around on the fret board to change key. for example if ya want G minor pentatonic start at the 3 fret of the low e string or the 15. AND REMEMBER TO USE ALTERNATE PICKING WHEN PRACTICING SCALES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (up, down, etc.)
As far as how many scales to use all depends on you dude....just how inventive do you want to be?
E minor pentatonic scale
e 12-----15
a 12-----14

Try to learn as many as you can, even outside of your musical interests. Good music is often a hybrid of different styles and you never know when you will accidentally stumble on a scale that works and sounds very unique. Start with the Major Scale, Minor Pentatonic, and Major Pentatonic. These three are probably crucial to your style. But try to add some of the 7 modes to your playing (Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, and Locrian).

No, you do not ought to study scales. the only people who play scales are people who want to have extra appropriate technique, play air purifier and speedier, write music with substance and alter right into a musician able to enjoying music with chords different than means chords. you're extra gifted than those people who ought to coach scales. Mamianka, who has been a musician longer than you have been alive, ought to be a sluggish learner to ought to play such lots of scales each day. i'm a sluggish learner, too, having conservatory coaching and a music degree and nonetheless training scales, yet you appear to be the kind of guy or woman who does not ought to coach scales. You sound such as you're doing amazing already. you're appropriate- one scale ought to do. study a a million octave G scale. purely flow up the size- no might want again back off. Play it as speedy as you are able to, additionally. @Mamianka- Please reread what I wrote. i became into being heavily sarcastic. i became into utilising you as an occasion of an executed musician who nonetheless does scales. I additionally mentioned I nonetheless do scales.
