There was no "legal" America before the D of I, at least not an America with a legitimate central government. The D of I was an insult thrown into the face of King George III, then king of "America", telling him to go to heck and leave the colonies alone. That made him mad and started the Revolutionary War.
Funny, the South did the same thing to the North about 87 years later. The South just wanted to be left alone and have their own government. Why didn't the North let them? Weird, huh?

The Declaration of Independence made us free, it gave us natural rights and the three alienable rights that cannot be taken away: Life Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness. Because of the declaration of independence, it made known that the government should get its power from the conset of the governed-from the people, and not by one absolute ruler. The declaration stated that we will be free and independent states.

i resent that remark bout brits we aint that bad i think that it america become the land of oppourtunity made then an independant nation there for creating a nation of somthin like that to be honest i dont know much bout american history although somthin i would like to know bout
