I'm having a Halloween event and want to know ideas for certain things I can do to bring more people to my event.
Flyers and myspace aren't enough...

The most effective way is through weekly alternative reader. This is usually the weekly free paper with a liberal slant, but more people use it for entertainment than anything. Here is an example of one:

Use myspace to network and find some people who go to local high schools or colleges who will be permitted to hand out flyers on campus.
If you have enough money to buy any radio advertising at all, even $100, and give them tickets to your event they will give them away on the air or at least at promotional event. The more ads you buy the more on air mentions they will give you.
If you have a charity sponsor the event, more stores will let you leave flyers in their windows or on counter tops. You can also give a percentage of your proceeds to a local chain, such as Dominos or similar, which will give you maximum exposure in several places. Sometimes radio stations will give you a lot of commercials if you give them a portion of the proceeds, depending on how big your event is.
The best promotion money can buy is a radio live broadcast on the grand opening of the event, but these usually cost $3000 or more.
