I bought a ethernet cable, how do I go about hooking one end of the cable to a computer and the other end to a router? I have it hooked correctly I think so how do I create a connection on the computer? It is going from a router from one computer and I am trying to get internet on another computer also.

Why don't you check your router's manual. Otherwise ask you local computer store for help.

You will be hooking your Internet connection in on the router with a cable, the hookup should look similar to a phone line only larger, one end goes into the router the other end into your modem.. or broadband connection.. then you take another cable and insert that into the router and the other end in the back of your computer.. there is only one slot that it will fit in.. the same for other computers on the network.. UNLESS you are going wireless... then you only need to hook up one computer with the cable until you get the router configured... you should have a quick start guide that came with the router.

Unfortunately, I doubt anyone here will give you the basics for setting up a computer network and connecting to the internet. That are a lot of variables and it varies with each setup.
You are asking a lot.

But you may get lucky.

Good luck.

I just proved my point. The response above from Cutie...how do they know you are or not on DSL? See what I mean by too many variables.

go ti My network places n choose view network groups. it has to show the computer at the other end of the router...

user "ipconfig" command in Command prompt to check the IP and status of connection...

using "ping IP" command check whether connection is available with the other computer.... (where IP=IP address of the next computer say 192.168.12.143)

As far as internet connection is concerned it is quite easy...
Just make ur internet connection as accessible to all users in the system which enables it to access using the login of the other system...

All the best...
