The answer from Thehumble was a good one, try it. Then if it is still slow, try this,,, click start, click run, type in msconfig. Once window opens, click start tab, now disable all and close. (note: you will need to open your anti-virus program before connecting to Internet so that is running.) this should help some. Ok,, if your on dial-up service you can also try this too. (this is a little known secret) Click start, click control panel, then click on phone and modems. Once the window opens, click on the moden tab at the top, then click properties at the bottom. Now click on Modem tab in this window, on the next window that opens you will see maximum port speed (standard modems are set to 115200 by default) Change this to 57600 on the drop down list. Now click on the advanced tab at the top. You will see extra initialization commands on this page. (Without error) type in AT&FE0V1S0=0&C1&D2W0 (note: all 0's are zeros)
Now click ok at the bottom and close all. The next time you connect to dialup, your connection speed will be almost 4 times what it was before. If this does not work for you, just set it back like it was before you started this.

There are many things you can do for yourself to increase speed:
- Are you using a complex screensaver - it runs in the background and eats memory. I had fun with mine, then changed it to blank.
- How many programs do you load at startup? Maybe you should check it out and ensure you are running just what you need.
1.From IE, click Tools, Internet Options
delete cookies
delete files (offline files)
clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want)
click o.k., and Restart
2.click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools – run Disk Cleanup
3.Temporarily close Quick Launch:
Right-click on the Taskbar, click Toolbars, deselect Quick Launch
4.Open My Computer
right-click on C:
click Properties
click Tools, select Error Check (check all and fix), when finished click defrag & run.
5.click Start, Run ipconfig renew (type ipconfig space renew)
6.Restart. Right-click on Taskbar, click Toolbars, select Quick Launch to restore
All these things should be done regularly. The more frequently they are run, the less time they take.
-Note: Games and videos are mostly graphics. Graphics create large files. You might need more memory.
