I don't think it's just about the money. She is maintaining her independence. If it ain't broke don't fix it. She loves Stedman but she doesn't want to get married what is the problem? Marriage is an archaic tradition, that has no real value in this society and why we continue to endure it, in light of all the evidence for its obvious faults, is beyond me. 50% of all American marriages end in divorce! Hello! First of all, love in a marriage is a new idea, for hundreds of years love had nothing to do with marriage, even kissing on the mouth is a recent development in some places.Commitment is what we need more than marriage certificates. No one really wants to get married they want the physical wedding, the fantasy, most never plan past the honeymoon. Do we really know what we are getting into when we marry. Or do we marry because it's time, we're getting old or it's the thing to do. Just remember, Marriage is a beautiful institution...but who want's to be in an institution?

What makes someone smart in her situation is not an ability to protect her money & have a safe but doubtful relationship that probably won't last. She, and anyone else for that matter, is smart when you are intelligent enough to find your true love which is one you can trust with in EVERY way including with your money enough to marry AND have a deep, lasting, loving relationship with that you know won't end. Now THAT takes a lot of smarts to accomplish, which she's not doing because of fear of understanding herself and understanding what she wants and how to get it.
You really have to know yourself and know what your looking for and how to get it, to do that. And most people aren't really honest with themselves enough to do it.
A good & safe relationship is completely different that a full real relationship.

She can have the best of both worlds...she has a good relationship, her money intact and is free to do what she wants and has to do in her job. I agree, she is one smart lady for so many reasons, that being one of them!

It's not about money, he didn't want to marry her when she was young and could have children - and she dearly wanted to. Now she's in her 50's - what's the point? Now she does want to marry him - let's leave it like it is. It would have meant something 20 years ago, now it's just security for him. NO THANKS - you go Oprah pass on it.

i agree I don't trust Steadman. But it's actually kinda sad she will live her life lonely and without a life partner,or experience marriage because she so damn rich. i think if Steadman could work alittle harder and make alittle more cash he would have a better chance,hey it won't be hard for him to find a job,he's Oprahs man
