Does anyone else think doing penanty shootouts after 2 overtime halfs is unfair? I personaly think it's unfair because basicly in a shootout it's basicly just guesing. I thinkg it should go back to Golden Goal.

Does anyone else agree with me?

I completely agree. I would also add, that the Golden Goal adds more hype and excitement to the match, whereas having to play two overtime halves just takes it out on the players, leading to less inspired football.

It's not unfair...It's like flipping a coin. Each team has the same chances on making their PK's from the start. Each team has the same chance in winning. The game would work with both choices, so I'm not going to say that the shootout is unfair, because it's not. Besides, I like the shootout because it's very nerve wrecking, unpredictable, and exciting to watch. If it goes into golden goal, it's no different than just watching the match, whereas the shootout adds a lot of excitement. Both work, but I personlly like the shootout.

To sum up, no I don't agree with you, I think the shootout is a fair method.

While i may agree with you that no one's going to be happy about a match going to penalties, i don't think it's unfair.
It would be unfair if it gave one team a chance the other didn't, but it's not the case. Both teams have had 120 minutes to get one more goal and it didn't happen, we need a winner, and so we go to shoot-outs.
By the way the Golden Goal rule (or the Silver Goal rule) are not incompatible with penalties. A match with Golden or Silver Goal could still go to penalties.

I agree-Blatter announced today that they are thinking of doing away with penalty shoot outs for the next World Cup. Yes, Italy won in this matter this year, and it does seem unfair to the French however, one must remember they lost in '94 to Brazil in the same way.
I think they should just play until they drop dead (you know what I mean)

yeah i think it is unfair but the golden rule is better because then it comes down to the fitness of the both teams

what happens if either team scores a golden goal do you just keep playing ...for how long 4hrs 5hrs......yes penalty shoot outs is pot luck but it is nerve racking/exciting all rolled into one and a fair way or concluding a game.
