i understand that ftl travel is not possible (at this point in human history, anyway). that being the case and that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line, do you think that at some distant time we will be able to generate enough gravity in an object (ship?) in order to bend spacetime around on itself so that an object say 25 million light years away would simply be a short step, like going through an ajoining room door in an hotel??

It is amazing how an idea such as bending space time around that seems to impossable and far in the future happens...in most cases quick then thought.

While this may seem far fetched all you have to do is think about the World War two vets that are still alive. When they were born in early 20's not many folks had cars much of the work and travel was still done with horses, outhouses were the rule expect in the largest of cities, elecritic appliances did not exist, air travel while invented was far from reliable and not common place. 50 years latter man was walking on the moon, everyone had cars, intercontinental jet travel common place, the electricity was in every house, TV. Yet computers took up whole rooms. Today most people have computers, email, the international space station, we are no the verg of new fuels.

While the thought of bending space seems far fetched and beyond our abilities....it might happen much quick then the average person thinks.

right here's the deal, as an merchandise travels swifter and swifter its mass will enhance; you've a larger mass getting in the street than status nonetheless. that is something mass higher by a range determined by its speed. because the speed of the object procedures the speed of sunshine this coefficient procedures infinity so if the object has any mass in any respect (as all remember does) the ability required to boost up it further procedures infinity also. Photons are considered massless debris (alongside with different extraordinary homes) so that you've infinity situations 0 it truly is incomprehensible.

This would be possible, but it's so complicated that it probably wouldn't become a possibility, except in the very very distant future.
