Hello. I am the mother of a 12 year old girl who has gone behind my back and been signing on "Myspace" and her hotmail. My stepdaughter came to me this afternoon and told me about some conversations she saw on myspace between my daughter and some unknown guy who says he is from Florida. My daughter gave me her email address but she says she forgot the password. Is there any programs that I can download that will show me the passwords that have been entered on this computer within the last few days. I really need to get in and go through her stuff. For all I know this could be a pedafile and she knows better to do this but I fear she might have given our address away as she has before. I need to find her password to these two ASAP. Please help me fast!!!! I don't care if I have to pay money for the program, just please give me some ideas.

I agree with most of these answers but it's too late now to stop whatever your daughter has put out there on the net. This may sound mean but have you considered coming down a bit hard and sharing your fears with her and tell her the only choice you and Dad have is to take her computer to your local law enforcement office. Assure her that they CAN get in to it....password or no! Her password has not been forgotten, If she thinks the world is going to see what she's been up to there's a good chance her memory may improve....Good Luck!

First of all, be very careful with this situation. You do not want to drive your daughter away from you. You sound like a very caring parent and have probably talked to her heart to heart about it. Let her know your feelings, but also try to understand hers.

As someone said, you can get a software keylogger, or a hardware keylogger that plugs into the end of your keyboard cord. This will help you find her passwords in the future when she logs on. There is no real way to find it in the past. You can, however, locate the Temporary Internet Files on your computer and look through each of them one at a time - you can sort them by date when you are looking at them. This will help you find out if she is giving personal information out to some creep.

Hope this helps. I am not a parent, but know I would probably worry about stuff like this if I had a daughter too.

Wow..this sucks.
I have a 16 yr old daughter, and I have myspace and other sites like it blcoked. I am a computer tech, so I can outsmart my kids when it comes to computers. Kids these days are actually pretty stupid when it comes to computers. They just type and go...and have no sense and are VERY naive.

But as for you, you are in a predicament.

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do after the fact. But you DO need to take counter-measures NOW.

Take charge of your child. Limit his/her internet access. Get a router that has URL/Domain blocking abilities so you can block all these "bordellos for pedofiles"/myspace type websites.

Then delete their User account on your PC, make them a new one but only give it limited access. NOT Admin rights. This way they cannot install any crap from the internet.

There are also many programs on the internet you can download that will firther monitor your child's computer activities.

Good luck.

Feel free to call on me for any added advice.

No there is no easy way to get a myspace or hotmail password. You would need to contact both of them, explain the situation and see if they will release the info to you. If they refuse to work with you I would suggest contacting the police and ask them to contact myspace and hotmail on your behalf. They should have no problem doing that if you have legitimate evidence that there is a pedophile stalking your daughter online.

I refuse to allow my children access to myspace and have blocked it at the router. I strongly suggest you do the same.

Same as other... keylogger. Bad thing is that it does not log anything prior to installation. You can set up "Myspace" as a untrusted site in Internet explorer. That could keep her out of there for a little bit.

Young people, tend to have very insecure passwords, often using names of things that are familiar to them. Try to guess it and sign in to her account. Try the name of her boyfriend(?), her pet, her favorite singer or band and the all time most insecure passwords...love and password.

Other then that ,faced with the threat of 2 weeks loss of computer privileges and her memory could improve real quick!!

this wont help right now, but there are programs called "key loggers" that save all the key strokes typed into the keyboard. try getting one of them and wait, because it logs ALL the key strokes they can help even if the message has been erased. however i dont know where you get them, try an internet search, and im not sure of the legal aspect of snooping into personal information but if its your computer in your house you may be ok. hope this helps some, sorry i cant be more help. steve.

You can buy a key logger program, but it will only log keystrokes made after the program installation.

Other than that, I don't know of anything.

Check out these sites to find a key logger program.

Good luck.
