I personally think the no white thing after labor day is just an old out of it adage.
During the holidays I had a bright green Christmas sweater that didn't really go with anything I had. I tried it on with this awesome bleach white mini-skirt. It looked fabulous--and I got all kinds of compliments.
So--I think nowdays--just forget the labor day thing and go with it.

personally, i find ALL white pants pretty horrible. but if you must know an answer, the after labor day rule came about to keep people from wearing fabrics that were too light for fall. If your "awesome" white pants are not a light fabric that are inappropriate for cool.

I so don't subscribe to this "no white after Labor Day" thing. As long as you're not wearing the white pants with a summery top and summery shoes it's fine. You can wear the white pants with a fall top and fall shoes or with sandals, as long as you aren't pairing that with summery attire.
As long as you pair the white pants with fall-appropriate attire, you will definitely be a fashion OK instead of a fashion no-no!

what has labor day got to do with how you dress in october? That ols saying about white after laborday is just an old wives tale. If youy wanna wear whits have at it even in january it always looks nice on women.

I think that particular rule was/is applicable to "white shoes," and not white pants. But whatever, ultimately, it has been said that white after Labor Day is the thing to do.
