Sounds like either your starter is bad or you have bad connections on the cables. Clean the cables first...if that don't help have the starter checked...most likely that is the problem.

Check your terminal and terminal ends for cleanliness and tightness. Might be using too small of gauge wire also. Make sure you have good ground! One other thing could be a positive ground and you have the cables crossed? You didn't give any information as to the application specifications.

As stated above....wire size (gauge) too small and/or bad connections. Possible start going bad drawing to many amps. Does engine turn over by hand? Mechanical binding issue with starter?

It's the little things that get'cha.

Your saying trying to start...so my guess is the wires are too weak( also check..make sure tight..clean)..for the amp draw....getting hot....this could cause starter to burn up. If the wires was switched...it would arc..just being hooked up. Does the ground cable...from motor to frame get hot?

Could be that they are not the right size wires for the job. Maybe they are too small. Also, a poor connection could cause the problem. Also, maybe your starter is bad and trying to freeze up.

you have a couple of possibilities, one, the cable may be toosmallof a guage to handle the current. two, you may be cranking your engine waaay too long. three, you have a bad cable and it is shorting out.

If the starter is siezing up it will over heat the wire. You probably need a new starter.
