Do you have a computer at home? If so, simply practice touch typing -- use articles from the newspaper or whatever, just to give yourself something to type. If you don't have a computer or a typewriter at home, would your boss let you stay after work to put in some practice time? If not, maybe you could come in a little early or use your lunch hour. Honestly, the only way to improve your typing speed is to practice, practice, practice.
And if you can't use the typewriter at work, and don't have a machine at home, public libraries often have a computer that you could use for half an hour or an hour. And failing all that, you can visualize. Sit at a desk with your fingers in typing position, read from a magazine or book or whatever, and simply move your fingers as though you were typing. You won't be able to check the results, but the 'imaging' can actually help you, both with speed and accuracy.
Good luck -- and enjoy the new job! You've got the kind of determination that will help you land it.

Yes I fell asleap in typing class after lunch 1969. But some how I can type 60 wpm. Quick use of spell check and practice make not so perfect. Just get a electric typewriter and paper and give it a go. The lazy fox jumped over the dead dog. The hooker got a john to go to the motel. and in no time you will be formulating real sentences. And typing like a pro.

I improved my typing score buy playing a game called Typer Shark. Several sites offer it, you can download it at work on to a disc and then take it home. It's a fun and quick way to practice and improve your speed.
You can find it at PopCap Games, on Yahoo, and several other sites, here's a link to get you started
