Mine has no off switch, so mine at least is meant to stay on.

It will do nothing to your computer or the router, but i do most of the time because i found out that one of my neighbors was using my router so i turn it off at all times when i am not going to the internet.

I always switch mine off to save power and for fear of damage to electrical appliances during a thunderstorm or power sage.

I leave mine on all the time, since I also leave my computer on all the time so I can have it keep doing stuff.

"Safety"...Even if no surge protector I still
wouldn't bother to turn it off, but that's for you to decide.
"Saving energy"...best to turn off.
"Wear & tear"...they don't like constantly being
switched on & off.
Conclusion...leaving on.. wins :-)
