I heard a recent report that Firefox is less secure, but it only takes an average of 1 day for them to patch up security issues when they are discovered whereas MS IE is more secure, but takes an average of 9 days to patch up security issues when they are discovered. Also, IE has been said to infect your computer with viruses/worms simply by clicking on a link...is this true? Is the security situation out there as bad as it seems?? Thank you for your advice and God Bless!!

Firefox and IE are browsers whereas search enginges are google, yahoo etc....

I use Firefox ever since I had my pc rebuilt last year from the trojan worms etc that I think got in easier because of IE... I also use Zone Alarm to protect against intrusions...

So far I haven't had any problems with Firefox and I've been using it for over a year.

Its more important that you have a good firewall program and anti-virus software and block all pops...

Good luck

Neither FireFox nor IE are search engines- they are Internet browsers. Examples of search engines would be Google, Yahoo, Ask.com etc.

Between the two browsers, they both have bugs and yes, Microsoft being a large company with many products in mission-critical environments often takes awhile to patch things- after all they want to make sure that this week's IE vulnerability fix doesn't accidentally break their Windows Server code, or some other widely-used Microsoft product.

Firefox is faster, with better features and (in my opinion) based upon better code to begin with. Microsoft's new IE7 is way better than previous versions of IE and sports many of the same features as Firefox (like tabbed browsing). But I'll still take Mozilla over Microsoft.

Basically there are 2 big problems with IE.

1) The original code was a mess and it's just been patched and patched and patched as security holes have been discovered & fixed.

2) It's so widely used that it's the prime target for hackers- most exploits and bugs are written specifically for IE because it's what comes with most computers, and virus/spyware writers try to target the largest population they can.

I use Firefox for 90% of my browsing- ocassionally I run across a website that was created by some lazy developer who assumed everyone uses IE and doesn't work properly with any other browser. When that happens, I just use Internet Explorer and go about my business.

Whichever browser you use, be sure to run up-to-date virus and spyware protection software.

Yes, the situation is that bad ;)

As stated above, Firefox and IE are browsers, not search engines. You access a search engine from the browser.

Firefox is more secure than IE, and it will automatically update itself to patch vulnerablilties. Right out of the box, it is extremely useable, but to take the fullest advantage of it, you need to be more savvy about customizing things, although it is very easy to customize Firefox with all sorts of add-ons and features, most of which you wouldn't use, but some of which are very handy, like the search engine field, where you just choose from a dropdown list next to the address field what type of engine you want to use and type in your search words...I have added a dictionary and wikipedia. You can find a gazillion themes to use for it if you don't like the default, you can...well, you can do a lot with it, and it is indeed more secure.

Security is a matter of being a careful computer user/surfer as much as it is a matter of having a "secure" browser.

FIrst Firefox and IE are Internet Browsers. Yahoo, Google, ask.com are search engines. Firefox is general a more secure browser.

There are IE vulnerabilites that can infect your computer, however there are more vulnerabilities to the general Windows OS. Always apply the latest patches that will help keep your system secure and run an anti-virus and spyware program.

Yes it is as bad as it seems.

the best search engine by far is google.
i prefer using a firefox browser over an explorer browser because explorer is more ofen targeted by viruses and is plagued by popups. And mozilla is cuter.

I would trust IE more because its by Microsoft and microsoft is a huge company and they want to keep your buisness. I trust IE, I use the latest IE: 7 Beta. You can get it at microsoft.com, it is different, more secure and better than the previous version. It is also better than Firefox!!
