I am wondering how to use etre in this sentence. It is in the past tense. The sentence is Guillaumin (was an) l'artist impressionniste....PLZ help! thanks...first ligit answer gets best answer!

OR
Guillaumin était un artiste impressionniste.

Guillaumin fut l'artist impressionniste is passe simple

you just put in etre after guillaumin

etait un but do not forget to take off the l' since it is also an article and you already have un for an. hope it is making sence.

Guillaumin était un artiste impressionniste.
You don't need the "l' " here. That means "the".
