I am a little concerned with how you chose to phrase your question, "TO a baby" as opposed to "FOR a baby". It is hard to say, but it sounds like it might be time for reinforcements. Babies who cry a lot may be ill, may have colic or may be very sensitive to their environment. If you have checked the diaper, fed the baby, made sure the baby was not too cold nor to hot then there isn't much you will be able to do until you feel calm. Breathe slowly and remember how much you care for your child.
Check the baby's temperature and right it down, then call the doctor. Babies don't cry for no reason, the crying is the baby's way of telling you something is wrong. Some babies like a baby swing, some like bouncy seats, if you have been at it for awhile, you may have solved the original issue but have created a new one in its place, the baby may be overtired or overstimulated. You can try rocking in a very dark (with enough light so you can safely get to the crib though) room with a fan or the radio not tuned to a station. If the baby seems to be uncomfortable being held, or if you feel like you can't take it anymore, give the baby a kiss and tell him/her how much you love him/her then lay the baby down on his back in the crib and close the door. Call your mom, your sister, an in-law, a friend or even your doctor and ask for help.
When my son was colicky, I would put a small hand towel warmed in the dryer over his onesie on his belly. For him, it helped.
When a baby cries, it can be really stressful, try to remember that the baby looks to you to be in control, even if you don't feel like you are in control, fake it. Breathe slowly to help keep your heartrate down, turn on music YOU like, sing, watch comedy, be in control of yourself and the baby will feel calmer.
I'll send all the good mom energy out to you I can. Good luck.

The baby might be overtired, or hungry, or colicky. There is a book called On Becoming Babywise, that I used with all 3 of my kids. It's awesome. I got them to sleep through the night early, and didn't have to deal with to much crankiness b/c of upset stomach, or wet diapers. They were happy and content. I found the book kind of late with the 1st one, but it still worked even though I didn't start it when they suggested, which was 2 weeks old.
A screaming baby loves car rides, and walking outdoors though. The rocking chair didn't really do anything for mine. They wanted to be entertained, not put to sleep.
Good luck!

If you can not get the baby to stop by either: feeding, sleeping, playing with, then you just have a cranky baby. This is hard, but here are some sites that might help.
it just depends on how old your baby is:

Check for all the obvious things first feed, nappy etc if baby is still upset try a warm bath or swaddling (wrapping baby up firmly but not too tight)!!

lol, nothing legally. . . .check the diaper, make sure it ain't hungry, to hot or to cold, the clothes aren't to tight. it could be gassy, tummy drops are always safe and if nothing else works, put him in the crib, shut the door, and leave him be for about 15 to 20 minutes. my first one always had to cry for a few minutes before he fell asleep, and the more i tried to soothe him before i figured it out, the longer he'd cry. and the more frazzled i was. hang in there.

my daughter had colic really really really bad... every night it was something different to calm her down... one night walking her aorund the house worked, the next night a car ride, the next night laying a towel on the dryer and putting her on her tummy with the dryer on low worked.... and if it is colic, try nutramagen formula, it really helps...
