Am I just being paranoid or is ABC sending a message to America that only white males are "eligible" bachelors? I have watchted the show from the very beginning and now they are in Season # 8 and EVERY single one of these bachelors have been white males. Don't get me wrong...I think white guys are gorgeous but so are Black, Hisapanic and Asian men!!! I think ABC has a responsibilty to represent "true" America which is very diverse and a rainbow of color.
What do you guys think?

The world we live in will ALWAYS hint at racism.....ALWAYS.
But it's always good to try to fight for what's right by writing your letter to ABC.
It's not going to end all racism...but it may be able to improve the appearance of equality--if nothing else!
I just wanted to briefly address a majority of people's responses asking people who want to see diversity to just stick with VH-1's Flavor of Love if we want to see "ourselves" on t.v.
That's soooo not the same comparison.
But it's also such a typical response from someone who is NOT of color. They over generalize and see us -- just as you see the people on Flavor of Love. They see us as animals basically.
The Bachelor has a more classy vibe to it....and the posters responses I've just read insinuate that "we"--people of color--do not qualify.
I really hated to read all of the previous posts...because it just let me know that we have a loooooooonnnnnnggggg way to go before there will be equality.
Actually--I don't think the world will ever be "equal"...
I don't think it was built to embrace "equality" from the very beginning.
I think that by placing an amount of inequality in the world can test your faith in God's word.
But back to the subject at hand--to answer your question direct:
I don't really watch the Bachelor...so initially, I wasn't that disturbed by it having all white member on it. But since it's been bought to my attention--I think that it is a problem that needs to be addressed. So good job in voicing your opinion!! Hope ya can make a difference!!
OMG--I just remembered another comment...
Someone said that they don't think Black men would "put themselves out there like that"---Ummmm....I disagree with that statement.
White, Black, Brown, Yellow...if it's a chance to be on t.v. AND date a beautiful woman in the process---who wouldn't chance it and take on the opportunity.
You just can't conclude the above mentioned quote as valid.

I never really thought about that until I read your question, but I totally agree with you. I'm sure they can find eligible black, hispanic or asian men but it just may require more work for them if people from those backgrounds don't apply to be on the show. All the bachelors I have seen are very wealthy, why can't they have a bachelor that isn't so wealthy. Money isn't everything to women. Why not have the bachelorettes the wealthyones? If ABC does respond, I've love to know what they say.

It doesn't bother me because although its "reality" tv, it never works. So if no one else is allowed to be embarrassed on tv, thats their business. Everyone thinks that tv has come a long way and it has not. Primetime on ABC just had a special about 2 Fridays ago about stereotype on TV. Asian men rarely get to kiss their females co-stars. The asian guy from lost said that was his first on screen kiss out of all the roles he had. B.D. Wong of Law & Order has not had a female counterpart on the show. There has never been reference made to a date or anything. You should go online and watch the clips. Go to ABC & click Primetime and see if you see it. Good Luck!!

Unfamiliar with the show, but just a quick note that they should statistically have the percentages as they stand today. If it is 49% white and 51% non-white, then they should have it as such.
The producers call the shots. Contact their sponsors (commercials) and let them know how you feel, and/or contact the producer of the show.
What bothers me are the Washington Mutual commercials that have a large group of white "stupid" men being shown as fools by a black male who has all the answers. That's racism.
We still haven't made things fully equal and balanced yet.

The truth is that No 1 the brothers are not willing to put themselves all the way out there. I want to clarify that there have been a few black candidates but they are quickly eliminated.

I'm bothered by the show altogether. What a lame show. It also shows women to be gold diggin', back stabbin' desparate and insecure.

ABC does not have a "responsibility"-its a reality show-a very cheap one at best-take it for what it is. If your life is centered around the Bachelor show then I suggest you get a different lifestyle
