Hey, the gays should be able to get married. I am straight and I am not offended that gays want to get married. THINK about it. If they can't get married, it GIVES them rights that straight people do not have. Example: a straight couple that lives together cannot be on each others medical insurance policy, BUT a if you live with someone of the same sex, you can put them on your health insurance policy. That is an exception. This gives them a right that straight people do not have. The insurance company says that straight people have the option of getting married, so they have to make that exception. Well, that is not fair either.

Gays should be allowed to get married just like anyone else. This so called "institution" of marriage everyone is so afraid will be ruined if gays were allowed to marry is already in trouble since we are at a 50% (or higher) divorce rate in this country. How can gays/lesbians getting married harm that any further? Seems to me if this so called god (I am an Atheist) of these right wing Christians is so great then he is forgiving gays as we speak and these people are putting themselves above their god by condemning gays? I ask anyone that is married...if a gay couple gets married will it alter your marriage in any way? The gay lifestyle is one of the most misunderstood in the world. Is my 14 year old daughter in any more danger with a heterosexual male teacher than my 14 year old son would be in danger if his teacher was a homosexual? Of course not. Gay people do not force their lifestyle on anyone. The world would be a much better place if people would mind their own business and not force their own morals and living standards on anyone else. Right now heterosexuals outnumber gays... and the heterosexuals want to restrict the gay community's rights. Suppose the gays outnumbered the heterosexuals and then tried to restrict their rights. Takes on a whole new outlook then, doesn't it?

The difference is that gay couples, vs just friends, would pledge fidelity and civil unionship (similar to marriage).

Why shouldn't we have rights as a couple that other hetro couples take forgranted and take advantage of.

Case in point: marrying an illegal immigrant for money so they can gain citizenship.

one look no further than the barrage of game shows and reality shows in which a woman or man must choose a wife based on looks and money.

just pointing out a different prospective.

I side with Greg and Jessi both that marriage is meant for man and woman only. Only a deviated mind turns to same sex couples which was never intended by our maker and should be opposed. All they have done is create a mass destruction of common sense. Marriage was established to carry on family heritage and tradition of off spring children from man and woman and has worked for thousands of years and now idiots want to destroy that process. I think they should crawl back into their closets where they belong in the first place.

I agree! For those who don't support it, then they should never be gay and get married. It really is that simple. It has nothing to do with other people's "traditional marriage." I am straight and engaged...gay people getting married has NOTHING to do with anyone's life than the couple involved.

I am straight, and living with my boyfriend.I was able to get on his insurance policy,no problem.I don't know where you got your information, but it is wrong. It's called single plus one,and Tufts and many other insurance companies offer it.You have to live together for at least 6 months, and you are eligable.

Blah blah... Gays have been "married" for centuries, commited to each other. The issue is now whether the straights, religious hypocrites and those in the closets let them sign the same papers heteros do.

The government has no business in marriages - that's a religious thing. Let's keep government and churches separate, and let them play in their own sandboxes.

If somebody's church permits gay marriages, fine. If another church does not, that's fine, too. People will decide which church to attend.

Government should regulate property, estates, taxes, legal contracts, conduct wars and issue drivers licenses. Not churches - they should do baptisms, communions, marriages, etc.

And please keep the bible out of government. That way, we'll be sure to keep the Constitution out of churches.

If the gays want to get married, let them. If the lesbians want to get married, let them BUT DO NOT CALL IT A MARRIAGE. That phrase is reserved for the other parties, husband and wife.
Call it a UNION, a TOGETHERNESS, a FUSION whatever but do not call it a marriage.

Sad how it is 2006 and we still have civil rights problems. I think gays should be able to get married for their pursue of happiness.

i completely agree that homosexual men and women should have the right to marry, live together, adopt children and live a normal life. while the bible may critisize this we must look into todays society, which is much different then back then. not allowing homosexual ppl to marry is just discrimination. plain and simple.
