Some people can read something more easily with a colored background (I've heard for most, blue is best). This can easily be achieved with a colored screen.

Green and red is a bad combination. Try mixing the colors on your computer screen.

The best way to understand something better is to think about it. Colors dont' impart knowledge. Basicallly something that you can use to help recall the information to mind helps with memorization, but understanding comes only by work. You've got to think about it, not read it, to understand.
