Hello all,
I'm hoping I can get some good answers to my question. My question is, for the last year or so I've noticed that I have a lot of bloodclots in my period, pretty good sized ones. I went to my gynecologist, but she said it isn't a big deal and that it's normal. But seriously, last night (my heaviest day) I had 5 large bloodclots come out in a 10 minute period. I'm sorry if it's a little gross, but I'm seriously concerned and I need your thoughts. I mean, I know I drink enough water, so that's not the problem. I take a multi-vitamin, I exercise regularly, and I'm within normal weight and everything. So I don't think any of those things is my problem. What do you guys think it could be? Do you all have similar stories? What should I do? Thank you all, in advance, so much for helping!

"papyrusbt" I don't take birth control, but thanks for the tip about iron. I never thought of that and my gyno never mentioned that. I'll definetly look into that. Thanks so much!

Dear.. when you have your period, your uterus is literally shedding it's lining. It's ok for there to be clots present. After your period, your uterus will be ready again, an egg will be placed... and if it isn't fertilized, the whole process will start over again- on your next period. You're fine. :)

This can happen---
also:
some birth control pills can cause dangerous blood clots.
iron supplements can cause bloot clots. Unfortunately, most menstruating women are anemic to some extent, and they take iron supplements, but this is a side effect that is scary. Check your mulitvitamin for iron, and perhaps try to get more iron in your diet through foods. Mild anemia might be better than clots.
There are so many variables to women's reactions to iron supplements and/or birth control pills that you just don't know, so you might want to do without them.

Is there anyway that you could have been pregnant. Sometimes a bloodclot could be a misscarriage. It happened to my friend it was like a normal perios but then she found out she had a miscarriage at 4 weeks.

If it's something that makes you uncomforatable, you should talk with another gyno and at least get a second opinion.

This is perfectly fine. They are just peices of tissue from the lining of the uterus.

It is perfectly normal. My sister has the same problem.
