It is all about the money.... I can do one better than hydro-electric, it is called geo-thermal and it has the least amount of environmental impact and little if any waste... However the government has cut the funding to it.... I highly recommend you read Internal Combustion by Edwin Black. It gives a very revealing look into why we are stuck with what we have..

You need to look at the big picture.
There are side effects to using nuclear energy..where to store spent fuel?
No one wants to be responsible for future problems that may arise at storage facilities.
Also the nuclear boom happened when America was still like a child playing with a new toy,and it cost us big time.
There are many issues that need to be addressed and problems solved before America can once again make an attempt a nuclear energy.
I think most will agree that new technology that works well, was first perfected by the military...the government will allow nuclear energy once the bugs are worked out.
You can't just give people open range to use nuclear energy...it must be perfected first.

I have the same problem with grammar & spelling. They suck .Thank God for spell check.The reason we have so many oil & coal fired power plants is because no one wants a nuke plant in their back yard.When my brother was in the navey he was on a nuke sub . They went out to sea for 3 months at a time & down for 5 weeks at a time.They devided the team & sent half to the Bahhamas for 2 weeks whilethe rest went out to sea for 5 weeks. They then checked the radaition Badges & the people who went to the islands had a higher reading. So much for the mith about nuclear power being so evil.

Yes, or hydroelectric. Less dangerous and cheaper. It disrups the wildlife on certain rivers but if we were to build 500 or so large hydroelectric plants it would be the only power source we would need.
