I chose an ancient greek symbol. The Sun of Vergina.

The flag of Cyprus is:
The map of the island in orange (a colour close to cooper - Cyprus had a lot of it). The white backround it's the symbol of peace.
The two olive branches are also a symbol of peace and virtue.
Someone came up with that flag because, by law, he had to avoid any national symbols or colours of the Greek nation and the minority of the gypsy turks of the island.
I hate that flag ! We fought for a Union with Greece, not an "independent" village.

I think I have to agree with you. The Sun of Vergina means so much ... It's a pity that some ignorant barbarians tried to steal it some years ago and put it on the clout they call their flag.

The cross! A very ancient symbol utilized by people for protection from bad energy.It always inspired faith to people and strenght. It became the symbol of Christianism. It is used in Greek flag.

Pitty the Nazies used it in wrong way!
(BTW, people are murdering also in the name of the Cross, Moon, .... )

(but i haven't even heard of it until now)
I also like the simple star of david espacially since i read the Da Vinci code and watched the movie
