There is an underused key on your keyboard that does what you're looking for:
between the keyboard (with the letters) and the keypad (with the numbers) there are arrows. Look up from there, past the delete key. See the "Prt Scr"? Press that.
It'll take a screen shot and put it into it's short term memory. Open Paint ( Start > Programs > Accessories > Paint ). Click on Edit > Paste. Then save it wherever you want.

Live Messenger doesn't let you take screenshots of a webcam feed (Mercury Messenger does). but you can take a screenshot.
If you don't know how to do that, hit the print screen key on your keyboard and paste into a program like Paint.
