There are 3 types of people that use the word "bit**" to mean a female dog.

1. A breeder or show dog handler will refer to a female dog as a *****. The dog does not need to be pregnant, just female. This is VERY common among breeders and show dog handlers. It is what you call a female dog, like calling a female human a "woman".

2. 10 year old boys and others with that level of cognitive development will often use the word "bit**" and back it up by telling mom, "But that's what a female dog is".

It's called testing your mom/teacher's/caretaker's boundaries, and it's a true rite of passage. Most mamas respond with: "When you become a dog breeder or a show handler, then, you call all the dogs b*****s. Until then, knock it off."

3. Adults who refer to female dogs as "b*****s" for shock value, because it's the "correct term" or to continue to test boundaries. These people are few and far between and you know who they are and you hate having dinner with them.

Either way, it's not a really nice thing to call a woman. Some women have tried to "reclaim the word" -- as in, it was derogatory but if women use it, we'll make it ours. There's been mixed success with that, because, honestly, feminist or not, female dog and all that comes with it is not something I'd like to be referred to as.

Bit** is the term for a female breeding aged dog and is not considered in poor taste to call one that. There are however, other words to describe that same animal. Dame, for example is a very favorable word. Yes it was and is a common term with breeders and veterinarians.

In my days if you called a girl a bit.. you better step back because you would have felt her hand come straight across your face. But I have to say most of the time we as girls demanded respect and got it..I feel a lot of the girls today talk slang and use language uncalled for and they get the same back from the guys.

Of course. I hear vets and dog breeders use the term all the time.

Now if you used to describe YOUR dog over Thanksgiving dinner, you may get some sideways looks from your aunts and second cousins.

It is not wrong to call a ***** a *****, and never has been, but some would say it is wrong to call a woman that word!

As I am very fond of both bitches AND human females who stick up for themselves, I actually have no problem with people calling women that word.
