I've read that the excessive and irregular bleeding can be symptoms of a number of other issues, but I don't see pregnancy as one of them (unless it's a miscarriage). She has had ovarian cysts in the past, and she thought that it might be a recurrence of that. Any ideas/suggestions?

I would get a preg test from the docter asap and also have her checked for cysts again!
If an egg was fertilized, implantation (when the embryo implants to the lining of your uterus) happens, on average, about 7 days past ovulation. It can happen as early as five days past ovulation or as late as twelve days past ovulation.

Early signs of Pregnancy:

Nausea/vomiting
Headache
Food cravings
Heightened sense of smell
Missed period
Backache
Crampy
Extreme fatigue
Tender/swollen breasts
Frequent trips to the bathroom

These signs can appear as soon as implantation or anytime after, each woman is different! Some women have all of these, some have a few and some women don't have any signs.
Good Luck!

I had the same problems and I went to an ob/gyn that done a d&c. It helped the problem. When having any type of female problems you need to report to the doctor asap. So many thing can happen in the female system. Some you will get signs others you will not

My guess is its probably nothing to do with pregnancy - I would urge her to go to the Dr to get checked out

Most likely not related to pregnancy.
