In the current volatile market conditions you should be looking for large safe companies with real assets. There are no sure fire winners, but I like BP for example. You can buy US Dollar shares traded out of New York & the yield is very strong. It has a very strong asset base, has pledged to return millions to shareholders over the next few years and has a management team with an excellent record. The current problems all appear (so far!) to be temporary or political in nature.

I think BP will rise significantly over a 3 to 6 month period. Demand for oil is not going away, particularly with China and India I think the world economy stays strong and oil trades in the mid $50's.

Some reasons not to buy BP would be if you think we're heading for a worldwide recession or you think the problems in Alaska will turn out to be more serious. If Executives start getting arrested then clealry that means the problems will not be resolved until well into next year.

Good luck with your game. If you don't like OIl try looking at low rated large cap stocks in Financials or Technology. Both sectors are likely to be strong through to the end of this year.

What is your "game"? Playing the markets is hard to do without study first and there are a couple of good books out, Try Real Tick for online trading help. Be VERY SURE you can LOSE ALL the money youu put in, because you just might. Been there done that.
