I have always strived to be #1 at work and I am currently in a position, where I see that I will not be #1, #2, or #3 (this is out of a group of 6 employees) for a long time. This is a hard realization for me.
I feel like that if this was school I would be a D student, which is not acceptable to me. I know that with time I will move up the ranks.
Is it ok not to be #1? Do you have any suggestions on how I can come to terms with myself?

I have the same problem as u .... i always want to be the first person my boss will think of whenever he needs helps.. but recently i find myself so stress up with all these unnecessary rubbish put on my shoulder.. i think the best way to deal with it is .. just try your best.. dun push yourself to limit.. bosses will not really appreciate you even u r the best, but they will feel disappointed once you cant answer their question which might not under ur charge. So be grade A student for tasks given to u.. that's the best.

What criteria are you ranking yourself with? Is it productivity and are you new to the work? Time will bring your productivity up and as long as you are giving an honest day's work you don't have to be #1, just a good worker.

Humble and try to keep a low profile is a likeable and respectable person in the company by many. Competition is good for personal growth. If you think you have the abilities and capabilities, people can see it. Don't have to alert.

There is nothing wrong with being #1, but everyone can't be #1. Just don't be too hard on yourself that you're not #1. Just keeping doing your best. That's all you can do.

don't be #1....think about it? the only place for #1 to go is out the door if they mess up at work
if you are #2,3,4,5,6 the boss will be a little more forgiving
#1 is really the end of the line...not the top..

it is ok not to be number one . i have been at almost every place that i have worked and i come to think i would rather be number two. not only does every one get mad at you and not like you. there is a lot more work put on yor shoulders, just do your work and do your best. you'll make it just fine.
