R= real numbers
Q= rational number
Z= integers {-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,4,......}
w= whole numbers {0,1,2,3,4,.........}
N= natural numbers {1,2,3,4.........}
hint: natural numbers are how you count naturally normally people start with 1 not 0 and continue from there

Amazing...been doing algebra, including higher and linear, all these past forty years and never heard of these letters. Where the heck did they come from? Why would anyone want to codify the kinds of number with arcane definitions such as these? For example, why not simply say "whole numbers" rather than assign some letter (W) to that?
