I have carried a Federal ID card for over 50 years and the odd part about it is that some states won't recognize it as a proper identification card. A Federal ID card would save the each state millions of dollars if it were utilized properly, but thanks to the idiots that are elected there isn't a one of them who has the brains to realize the waste that is going on and do anything about it. One card could reduce the number of several cards we now carry if it were set up and adopted. The card I have carries for over 50 years.... a Military Identification Card.

There already is they are called a driver's license, state id, and social security card. The problem is that all of these as well as anything else you can make up can be counterfeited. They were counterfeiting the new 20 dollar bills the day after they came out. Everytime a state comes out with a new ID that should be harder to counterfeit, it takes less than a week to find someone doing the counterfeiting. Sorry to raqin on your parade, but illegals aliens are not the only ones breaking laws in this country.

We are not in Germany in the 40's we don't need to carry around our "papers" to go about our daily lives. Screw the identity cards. I don't care if it prevents illegal immigration and stops all identity theft, I want to remain free.

How could you identify the illegals if they don't have identity cards? :s
I think it would be hard for the immigrations department or cops to be asking each person in the street to see their ID cards

we all have identity cards, they are called drivers liscenses, passports, state id's, ss cards, military ids, green cards, whatever and etc. The question i guess is should the us govment issue their own cards, and yet another agency to incorporate into the rest of them, which would be paid for by taxpayers, and what would the purpose of this be? I gotta say, if it is done correctly, and the pertinent info is sent to the correct places, and acted upon, why not? Its not like they arent wasting billions overseas each day, and carrying another card in my pocket wont hurt me.

Yes.
However, not having a card should not be a primary offense, per se. So, unless an official has another reason to ask (traffic stop, voting, air traveler, car rentals, hotels, work eligibility permits, bank accounts, etc.) they shouldn't be required to be shown.
There should be one for everyone in the US legally. Foreign travelers would need to get one along with their visas. That way, if they overstay their limit, they would not be able to move around easily.

Its not a problem of finding the Illegals, its what to do with them if we start looking. Anyone can find them its just we arent really looking hard. So the ID thing is unessacary as many people have already pointed out.

No- I have enough government ID already thank you very much.
I already do not like that here in Michigan they put all your information on a strip on the driver's license. I have enough problems in life beside guarding my private information on yet another way from thieves (and the government).

Typically ID cards only identify someone.
What we need is some id card that PROVES that the person that has it is a USA citizen.
It is all very simple...but liberals have a problem with it.
