I think that too many people are way too self-absorbed - selfish to realize that all they do is take from those that they love while neglecting to give to those people - to dedicate that time to them like they do to you.
I don't think that the neglect of doing these things can prove someone does not love someone else - I do think it means that the person is selfish, inconsiderate and needs to focus on gratitude - not taking someone for granted.
I can see why this story is a moral story though - I can understand the point but I know people that love others and don't do things for them - cause they either don't love themselves, are selfish, inconsiderate, self-absorbed, "too busy" etc. - I was never one of those people - I always dedicated time to my mom and helped her out - I never went through that teenage - get away from me - mom stage.
She is my hero, my best friend - so is my dad.
Love my mommy
:o)

Yes I love my mom. She has done everything for me, because growing up I did not know my dad. She has been a father as well as a mother to me. Sometimes things get rough but when you come down to it, she changed your diapers and took care of you (if she was involved in your life) when nobody else would.

I loved my Mom very much and I did a lot for her,she died 20yrs. ago. I think when people do help with things that their used to having done for them it shows them how much a person really puts into their lives and appreciates them more.

Yes, I love my mother, she is hilarious. She worries a lot though. When my dad was working on the farm every Saturday, we would take turns picking what we wanted to have for lunch that he never wanted...after a few weeks we agreed we both always wanted Taco John's crap, so that is what we ate...I loved that...

I'm a Girl,
Yes I love my Mom very much, but I don't like her much at all. There's a big difference. She can be and is very selfish, narrow minded and just nasty at times, which makes it very hard to like her, but yes I still love her, after all she's still my Mom.

I wish to God I could see my mom again. It's been almost 2 years since she died.
Cherish your time with your loved ones. Don't take a second for granted.

I agree---really loving someone means doing things for them because you love them. Now that my Mom is elderly, I am always the one who takes her to the store, the library, the doc.
I never realized how MUCH I loved her til I had kids of my own, though!

I love my mom with all my heart, and when I lived at home, I did my fair share of work , not because she made me, but because I wanted to. I know where you are coming from.
