I have put up with a lot from my neighbours...banging,shouting, reving their bike outside my window at all hours of the day and night and much much more yet they feel my latch is too loud on my door when it clicks shut and it is "keeping them awake at night" and make numerous complaints about things that i dont have a clue are happening/have nothing to do with or are part of everyday life - how can i deal with them and their little notes they keep putting through my door (other than change my locks to sponge)

Just contact your local council and hand over the notes with a written detail (diary is good) of your own complaints. These epoeple know they are in the wrong but are trying to scare you. It's always easy to give up and put up with it or try to move but why should you?
Do you know the famioly on the other side of this famiole (next door but one to you) Maybe they have problems too so you could get together and discuss this with the council...Sometimes it really is easier to move and have a stres free life, but they are in the wrong so really try and check with surrounding neighbours as there is legislation now to remove bad neighbours quickly. What you must nver do is take them on yourself as if they are as bad mannered as they sound it could cause trouble. Let someone else do it for you as you've paid your taxes and are entitled to help!Good luck!

Neighbours can really make your life hell and don't they know it... I have had a few really horrific ones in my time though the best was the one who ran private parties from her home (above mine) while knowing full well there was no sound proofing. Anyway eventually her floor (my ceiling) fell through which is when the landlords took my complaints seriously. All this is besides the point I know but just to let you know bad neighbours are pretty common.

I currently have a neighbour who complained when I walked and it was too late at night (she lived below me)...I eventually approached her and said sorry (for the millionth time) and said things should be better now because I had put down a thick rug. A couple of months have gone by now and she recently told me she couldn't hear a thing and thanked me for putting the rug down. The thing is I didn't get a rug. Sometimes people are irritable and find anything to whine about but if they 'think' the reason has gone they have to move on.

This approach may not work for you but you could try being really sorry and saying you have had the locks changed?

If this doesn't work I do have one suggestion... Keep a written track of anything, record things if you can... I just know how neighbourly disputes can escalate and it is better to be prepared.

Good luck.

You have to call the police and they need to catch them in the act and ask the police what will or can happen for repeated offenses, will it get them kicked out? Enough of doing this will end it. Get a witness or two or three and record EVERYTHING on paper, time, what is going on, time the police were called and what went on when the police got there and what happened afterward. Don't be too picky about what your neighbors do, small annoyances, cause you will look bad. This may cause a little trouble with your neighbors but in the end it will be worth it. And, com'on, loud locks??? That would look bad on them if they bring it up. ha ha.

I think you should have a loud word with your workmates if you work for the police. this sounds like harrasment, and is totally rotten behaviour on thier part. Close your latch so silent, even you cannot hear it....then if they say they can at least you know you are not going mad. i have been through hell with neighours, but there is a way to win. Keep the notes. Take to pOLICE. you do not have to change your locks... You have the evidence, the notes etc. you work for the ******* police godsake. Get something from it.

Ignore the little notes- they are trying to dominate you- don't let them!
Make a complaint to the Council about there noise, as the previous person said, the council will come out and assess the problem. Suggest to them that they do the same thing- the council will also be required to investigate their complaint but you will have nothing to worry about. Good luck

I would give them a set of ear plugs and a very nice note telling them to go $%^& themselves. Start complaining to the manager of the apartment complex about the noise they are making or inviting the manager into the apartment while they are home doing their thing so they can hear it for themselves. Then those little notes from them will eventually stop. We had that problem to the point that we didnt get notes we got pounding on our walls from them and we were quiet then. What we ended up doing was breaking our lease and buying our home.
Good luck.

I imagine you dont really want to fall out with your neighbours, as this would make the sitation worse. Why not invite your neighbour in and explain the grievences you have against them. This way you can both come to a satisfactory conclusion and no hard feelings. Your neighbour may not even be aware of your irritation. You never know, you could become friends.

keep every single note they put through your door, if possible tape record any incident (have one handy at all time) the more you can get on them the more chance you will have of restraining them. Most of all dont be intimidated by these idiots. You can obtain free advise from proper solicitors, just phone your local council and ask them where these solicitors are located and on what evenings you can visit them. They will advise you on your rights for free.

You can try your hardest to not give them any evidence they can use against you. Mine think they need to be dominant over others, and want to be the worst thing that has ever happened to me. Remember that they have to get a calibrated audio recording of whatever they say you do, if it is noise. I make a lot of noise back at mine, but do it in such a way that they could not use it as evidence without incriminating themselves.

i know how you feel, me and fiancee have a terrible neighbour, and talk about being domanant, everytime they have a party or they have their friends round they leave there rubbish out on the lawn, before they moved in i had a druggy/murderer live next to me. after months of complaining he got moved on, i have complained 3 times about there anti social behaviour and also the fact that they keep me up coz of there loud music and slamming of doors ive even sent 3 diaries of the crap i have to put up with but nothing is done. if you have a housing officer speak to him/her but if she /he dont listen go above her. thats what i am planning to do.you have a right to live peacefully after all you pay rent for the place or you bought it
