well
they are not prime by themselves,
but they might be
relatively prime to each other

80=2 x2 x2 x2 x5
189= 3x 3x3x7
so, they do not have any divisor in common, that means that
they are relatively prime to each other

80/2= 40 Because 80 Disided by 2 = 40

40 / 2 20 Because 40 divided by 2 = 20

20/ 2 = 10 because 20 divided by 2 = 10

10/2 = 5 because 10 divided by 2 = 5

5/5 = 1 because 5 divided by 5 = 1

The factors are

2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 5

2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 5 = 80

80 is not a prime number

189/3 = 63 because 189 divided by 3 = 63

63/3 = 21 because 63 divided by 3 = 21

21/3 = 7 because 21 divided by 3 = 7

7/7 = 1 because 7 divided by 7 = 1

The factors for 189 are

3 x 3 x 3 x 7

3 x 3 x 3 x 7 = 189

Prime numbers are numbers that can only be made by two factors (positive, whole numbers), being 1 and itself.

For example:
7 is prime, as the only combination of factors between 1 and 7 that equals 7, is 1 and 7.
90 is not prime as it can be divided by 2, 5, 10, and many other whole numbers on the way from 1 to 90.

If you're not sure if something is prime...
Try dividing it by 2, 3, 5, or 7. If you get a whole number for the quotient (no remainder/decimal), it is not prime.

"A tricky one" - One (1) is not prime as it is its own factor. You have to take 2 whole numbers to make a prime and they cannot be the same.

no a prime number is a number that has only one set of divisors, or numbers it can be divided by, 1 and itself are the only divisors of a prime number 80 is divisable by 2,4,5,8,10 and several others and 189 is divisable by 3,9 and several others

Uh, careful... by the way you are asking numbers in pairs, is your homework to determine if you have numbers that are MUTUALLY prime? In other words, two numbers that do not have a common factor? That is a different question.
