There was already a mini series on TV based on the sequel of Gone With the Wind and though it was a good mini series on it's own, nothing can replace the original and shouldn't nobody could do the parts justice, and it would be turned into a special effects, sexcapade film, like all remakes become. Leave perfection alone, I say. That's all hollywood has done for the last three decades is make remakes, wether exact or copied with similar story lines and they are never as good as the original. Classics can't be improved upon, that's why they call them classics.

NO, Dont you think that theres way too many re-makes as it is? Takes away all the greatness of the originals. Okay, certain horrors are welcome a re-make. But most dramas flop! The reason it worked then was because we didnt expect better, and melodrama was the key thing - nowadays itd just be some boring mush over dramatised that people couldnt take seriously - either that or itd go the way of the 60/70s tv show and be turned into "an outrageous comedy" which havent been that funny so far (no offence, ben, owen, farrel and co!)... Leave the originals ALONE!!

I don't think they should make another film version- but a miniseries on television where they could incorporate all the book and dot it justice would be fantastic. Keanu Reeves would make a great Rhett if he hardened his expression a bit, Michelle Williams would make a great Melanie, Madeleine Stowe could be Mrs O'Hara, Zooey Deschanel could be Scarlett (though perhaps an unknown would do better?) and as for Ashley maybe someone like Jason Lewis? Don't know why HBO and or the BBC aren't on this already...

Absolutely not.
It's not about making the film (not setting) look more modern it's about the art. When someone says Gone with the wind the thing you should think of is "classic" brilliantly filmed with clark gable. everything in that movie is perfect it is a discrace to simply redo movies because you can't come up with anything original on your own. If you can't appreciate the original or a black and white classic then you are missing out on a whole world of movie enjoyment and new meaning in film.

they would never remake Gone With the Wind. The original is too recognized. There was a sequel called Scarlett in 1994, starring timothy dalton, but it was just a miniseries or something. Scarlett would be Scarlett Johannsen, Rhett would be Colin Farrell, Ashley would be... no idea

How awful! Now I understand why Hollywood is making so many remakes! Can't you just leave good films alone? It's a classic! If they did it again now, it would just be yet another boring Hollywood film.
Don't people have enough imagination to come up with something that's not a remake or has 10 explosions, action, explosions, would-be sex, (forgot the kiss), happy hollywood ending? Oops, apparently, they don't! And people like you just love it, don't they?!

I agree it should be remade. The original ending was way too sappy. I would cast an unknown actress as Scarlet, much like George Lucas did when he cast Star Wars--but it would have to be a brunette with a touch of glamor, like Reese Witherspoon, but also a girl-next-door quality, like Natalie Portman.
Actually, I bet Kate Beckinsale could pull it off. Yes, she would be perfect.
Rhett would have to be a rugged veteran, like Brad Pitt, but not Brad Pitt--someone taller and darker.
Make it John Cusack--he and Kate were great in Serendipity.

WHOA... NO!!!!
Gone with the wind is a classic. You can't make it better than the original. That would be like remaking the Wizard Of Oz... only worse!
if they did remake it.. it would be horrible and no one would see it
