You should buy a computer based on what you plan to do with it, first. If you are going to use it for the common, usual things, like surf, email, download music files, play dvd's and other media, most basic level computers will do that, whatever the brand.

People are down on Dell computers, but they have nothing but Dells where I work, they have a real lot of them, and they have stood up to the work involved, which is accessing a large data base from a large central server complex, doing a gazillion emails, lots of word processing, surfing the internet and shopping thereon, listening to music from files they drag into their local drives [they think], running stupid macros about cats walking all over their screens, word processing: office/home stuff.

So if you are looking to do homework, surfing, email, watching videos, listening to music, maybe playing some kinds of games [nothing heavy like HalfLife 2, more like mah jhong or bejewelled], a Dell should be fine, in spite of what people say. Friend of mine bought a Dell, and if he can't screw it up, nobody can, lol.

But there are also HP/Compaq, and eMachines. Pretty impressive for the price there.

Also, consider a laptop, for the convenience, though they are more expensive. They don't take up the room, they are portable, they do the same things as a comparable desktop....same companies will offer better prices, but I don't do laptops yet, so I don't have any experience with that.

It relies upon on your monetary state at this second. that is less extreme priced to purchase a clean battery than an entire new computing gadget, so in case you do not opt to spend a lot of money, go ahead and get the battery. That reported, your computing gadget is kinda previous. There are belongings you should do to enhance the existence of the computing gadget, although that is on its way out. i'd likely go ahead and get a clean computing gadget if that is on your funds.

I personally prefer Macs. You see this little forum you're using to ask your question. These are very common between Mac users and therefore you can find great assistance within the Apple community.

If you are getting a Desktop computer, get a tower. All in one computers are fads. At least with a tower, you have space you can upgrade and screens you can change as you upgrade.

I have a Dell and I really like it, but you need to figure out what you want to do with it to know how much memory, hard drive size, etc. you need. Do you need a simple word processor; do you play games, etc.? Find out what specifications you need for what you want, and then go to several websites to check out what's out there. I've also heard that Gateway is good but I've never had one. Good luck!
