I agree, but not because I'm not skinny, but because most of the american people are not skinny. I think that models should represent real people who actually eat. No one is naturally thin like that. It's just sick the way they like throwing them in our faces.

Beauty does come in all sizes. Commercially, people use models who are skinny or toned or etc, just to sell their products. But not all companies do. And most people who are secure with themselves or and understand that thats how the industry is know that they themselves are beautiful and the standards of beauty today isn't always accurate. So I guess to answer the last question, no I don't believe skinny models have gone too far, because if you look at it, it isn't the skinny models who are trying to convey that what they are are beauty, its the companies behind them.

Yes, I think beauty should come in all sizes.
And now things are beginning to change! I don't know if you heard this, but in Europe, they are banning too skinny models.
I'm guessing that the reason for this is that obviously showing clothes draped over a rare size 2 won't convince a real size 8 to buy it and wear it.

People can be naturally skinny. I'm 5'8 and 120 lbs, and I have never had an eating disorder - in fact I eat a lot. I think that the new clothes look great on naturally skinny people as well as average sized people. Skinny people should not be banned from the runways.

I think beauty should not be defined by only one standard. Even when we look within one race of people, we see the variations, yet there is still beauty in each individual if we are able to view people with an open mind. Consider a garden with all different varieties of flowers. Now try to choose only one flower, out of many: Look at the tulips, roses, gardenias, dahlias, hyacinths, lilies, etc. How do we then select one flower and say that it is the beautiful one, the ultimate standard of beauty? Doesn't that then make the other flowers ugly?
Therefore, we should stop judging beauty based on one standard because it means that we cast aside all others. Beauty is dark skin, medium skin, light skin, kinky, curly or straight hair and heavy, medium as well as thin builds. Still, realistically speaking, I don't foresee society truly accepting heavyset women as a standard of beauty. Even women who are heavy, are often heard criticizing other women who look exactly like them; heavy and unmodel-like. We have been so brainwashed that we have caved in.
As for skinny models, that is nothing new. Even in the 1960's skinny models ruled. Some actresses have even admitted that they got more work once they lost weight. It is difficult to change people's perception of what is beautiful when it has to do with a person's weight. It seems that it is not the individual who defines his or her own beauty. It is a standard set by the "Experts and so-called fashionistas." If fashion designers, modeling agencies, fashion magazines and Hollywood producers made a concerted effort to showcase women who are heavier, and portray them as attractive people, then perhaps that would influence society's definition of beauty. Until that time, we will follow this cycle of occasional mild protest, then revert to the old standard where bony and hard are desirable and heavy and soft are viewed as ugly and undesirable.
It is so pervasive that in countries where heavier women were once seen as attractive, are now looked at as unattractive by their peers after they were exposed to, and indoctrinated by American and European television shows, videos and movies that show skinny women as beautiful and desirable, and fat women as ugly ducklings who sit home on Saturday night, dateless, miserable, and gorging on a box of ice-cream. It is never the skinny girl who is shown engaging in that type of behavior. Yet, if you look around, you will see multitudes of fat women who are in happy relationships or marriages, caring for their families and seeming no less fulfilled in their lives.

Our preoccupation with anorexic models is disgusting. Beauty is ultimately in the eyes of the beholder, and for some, a plump woman can be very attractive. To others, such as myself, a medium build is more to our liking. You will find that men who actually like women who have a waif like physique are in the minority. When a woman reduces her body to such slender proportions, she looses all the form normally associated with the feminine figure – the curvy hips, the ample breasts, the hourglass form – all things that arouse interest in men. Once those traits have been removed, due to tremendous, and unhealthy weight loss, all that is left is someone who looks like an androgynous prepubescent.
I always find it ironic that much of the fashion industry is denominated by homosexuals. Don’t get me wrong; I have nothing against those who have a different sexual orientation. I just find it ironic, that homosexuals are defining what the ideal physical standard is for a woman, when they aren’t even attracted to women. That’s like asking a Nazi to formulate standards for interracial tolerance.

I think that all women large and small are called beautiful. Most people don't think about the people who are larger than other's feelings. If they imagine if they were the fatter ones, I bet that they would feel sad and lonely. I truly agree that women of all sizes deserve to become a model and get respect. Also, models arn't concidered models in my point of view if they arn't nice and loving on the inside. Most people choose women that are sexy, pretty, cute, thin, look good, and have big sexy boobs. tHOSE PEOPLE ARE ASSHOLES AND MANIACS!

It's not an issue of "should" beauty come in all shapes and sizes, but as a matter of observation, it DOES... there are gorgeous women with wide hips and a tummy, there are also hideous women who are pencil thin...
The essence of beauty is a joy in life that manifests itself outwardly, a twinkle in the eye, an easy laugh you understand that sort of beauty
But on the other hand, one can't blame the models for being thin, but we do need to encourage women to love and accept themselves as beautiful, inwardly or outwardly... no one should blame the designers for not wanting their clothes on plus size girls... they're not the place to start in re-vamping the culture, our homes and families are!
