it the world we live in people either fear or disrespect what they dont understand. they have a reasoning to compare and make what they do or like better. you'll never understand rock if you never really grew up around it same as hip hop. granted hiphop mainstream is a lil more harder than where it came from but..so is rock. if you dissing hip hop it's because of your social group and your fear to stand out and like something other than i like rock in a time where if you did you was look at like ??? but i always been my own man and my real friend didnt care oh they pick and joke but they didnt care. most of the stuff they use to diss hip hop comes from the news what they hear but they dont do any real research on hip hop just like rock hip hop will always be attack because of it raw free speech years back rock way attack like hip hop is being right now. do some deep looking in your rock history and then in hiphop you'll see beside the style there is no real diffrent except the culture

Honestly I think you're making the same generalizations about rock that people make about hip hop. The thing is that it's a relatively new genre (starting out in late 70's I believe) as opposed to rock and metal which have been around since the 50's and 60's. When rock was new there were a lot of generalizations about it as well.
I think the problem comes in as where you're saying rock talks about drugs sometimes (as if rap and hop hop doesn't?) it's mre accepted because it's older. Not saying it's right but still.
Parents see the cussing, the talk of drinking and drugs and screwing "hos" and things like that and don't see the songs about dancing and just having fun, just our grandparents didn't see that in the rock music of the time.
I shouldn't even get started on the whole "rock is satanic" thing because thatI could write a book on.

Ok here we go, with the "rock is so evil " stuff again.Have you ever heard of the PMRC??They were invented because of rock music supposedly being so offensive and evil.People don't speak negatively only about hip hop music, hon.Almost all music has been branded evil, offensive, blatantly sexual or been deemed as derogatory in the past.Hip hop is just getting it's turn.People are always going to put the blame on the bad things in today's world on music,tv,movies , video games ,and whatever else to avoid the truth that they don't wanna raise their kids right. They want to let the tv babysit while they do something more important.Parents these days are horribly lazy when it comes to instilling values in their kids, and then they wonder what went wrong when little johnny or susie becomes a serial killer , "oh- it was that terrible music he was listening to!"Well, if the'd have paid attention to what johnny or susie was listening to and talked to them about it , it probably wouldn't have turned out that way.People are just jumping on an already full bandwagon , putting the blame on the most popular form of music at the moment. And in the defense of rock music, hip hop does have a lot of the same messages you were saying rock does- and these kids growing up today hear it and don't know any better because mommy and daddy never taught them any better , so they think it's all about bling, money ,being sexy : bottom line is that parents don't really care about their own kids and they want to blame anything they can when things go wrong........

It's not like rock music hasn't had it's critics. In the beginning rock music was viewed as bad and most people hated it except the fans who were considered to be following the devil. Rock was thought to be a bad influence on kids making them take drugs and have sex etc. ( Much in the same way as parents today view rap music as influencing their children to hit women, join gangs and shoot people).

The critics of rock and roll have pretty much disappeared because rock has been a popular type of music a lot longer than rap has. Give it time and the rap and hip hop critcs will get over it as well.

Of course people will always vocally have their opinions about what music they like better. And it's not just rock against rap either. Go to your local sports bar sometime and listen to the arguements between the guys. At one table you'll hear guys battling over who was/is the best rapper of all time and at another table a group of guys will be arguing over who was the better guitarist.

People are passionate about music.

I say listen to what you want and don't worry about what anybody else says.

go look up the lyrics of megadeth (an extremely hard rock group)
go look up g-unit.
there is a huge gaping hole of difference.

i think lyrics might be part of the influence.
although im sure there are criminals out there that listen to heavy metal, just as there are criminals that like the symphony I have never overtly noticed any driving around however!
although im sure there have been people shot at a rock concert sometime...somewhere...how about at a 2 live crew performance? heck, how about the artists themselves...lets see we had john lennon who lost his life to an obsessed fan...
how about hip hop in this regard?

hardcore hip hop is a celebration of 'thug life' right?
illegal activity? certainly.
rock n roll may have its moments of celebration of extra-marital affairs and so forth
how about hip hop?

you know, I see these people on a daily basis whether they are criminals or not, there is a phenom where if someone buys into what is supposed to be a certain hard look, it almost goes step in step with thier music...or what they saw thier hero on mtv wearing. But maybe its just the artists who are appealing to a sub-cultural element to sell albums?
By actually taking onto themselves to dress like a gang member? or someone who was once raped in prison?
If the music influences someone to dress a certain way then it has affected thier life...unless of course they are already gang members and there is no fake n bake about it.
to me what i see on an almost daily basis is what might be a sensitive scared boy thats trying to look hard - to become scary rather. If someone is so keen on anacronisms why not dress up like a swashbuckler?
Country music freaks do that, aseninely making themselves into makeshift cowboys...well thats as close as i can say an example is....its the people that associate themselves with the music and the way they treat themselves and others.
Im sure there are just as many 'cowboys' into country music that have never been closer to a cow than the fridge at 7/11 as there are 'gangstas', 'Gs', 'thugs' whatever as there are actual hardened criminals. The messed up part is trying to affiliate yourself with that by overt appearance.
real cowboys knuckle dust the the fakers at thier bars.
fake Gs get blasted on the streets.

Rock music also has its downs but not the way that hip hop/rap has. Theres different types of rock musc, not all depict the devil and drugs. But most hip hop/rap songs have foul language and speak of things that r stupid. Not all. But most.

because lots of hip hop (not all) just talks about killing others, and has 0 respect for women. rock does not talk about the devil maybe you mean death metal, or speed metal. also hip hop is way more main stream than death metal, so people have to find something to blame their children's bad behavior on.

People are scared of the influence it has on the young that is why they down grade it to sway young people away from it. And because it for the most part involves other races besides white, where rock music is mostly done by white artist.

i disagree..

rock music covers a large group. even oldies, the original rock n' roll music, isn't about negative things. hip hop is relatively new and almost all of it talks of sex, drugs, and murder. its much easier to find 20 rock albums that have not one references of these thing than it is to find 20 hip hop albums without mention of one of them.
