For sure on this site, people are not face to face, and you usually don't know the person you are responding too. I feel a lot of people just let loose here to unwind. Another reason, kids today are not disciplined the way they were years ago. Even people in my age (50+) bracket were not taught the same respect values as 100 or so years ago. People are not afraid to say whats on their mind, regardless of how it sounds or who it hurts. Another reason, everyone is in a hurry! No one takes the time to try & understand questions fully. If they read it, they are in a hurry to answer. Usually not a lot of thought is put into an answer - here on this sight or in public in general.

Well, I try to answer most questions nicely, but the rudeness goes both ways, the person who asks a question, can't even bother to press the check spelling button is being rude.
I am not saying misspelling is a crime, but when it affects the context of the question or makes the question unreadable, it is rude.
And when people correct the spelling or grammar in a question, maybe they are not being rude, maybe they are trying to tell people that they are judged by how they write.
If they get in the habit of misspelling words and writing sentences with awful grammar, then when they are in school or apply for a job, they will do the same thing. They will no longer notice when something is wrong, because they have seen errors for so long that they now look correct.
I don't know is not a good answer. I have commented with something to the affect of that is a good question and I can't help them and I intend to look back and see the answers.
I have to admit, I don't like stupid questions and will often say that, like the one about a store being closed for long weekends and it is full of wolves. Or how about "I taught my fish to swim what kind of tricks did you teach your pet?". Yahoo is not that fast, and this kind of garbage serves no purpose and just makes things slower.
Remember it is easy to be rude when no one knows who you are.

I'd say only 20% of the people on Yahoo Answers are rude. People who grow up in small towns are nicer. I grew up in a big city and people treated those of another ethnic group rudely or indifferently. When I moved to smaller towns, I found out that people were much nicer. If you never expect to see someone again, there is no reason to be nice. Not so in a small town. Other factors involved are the TV and Movies today exhibit rude behavior. Often it is used as humor. Values today have changed. People are more materialistic than they were 40 years ago. There's more of a pecking order today. Less of a middle class than was the case 40 years ago. Those at the top of the food chain treat the lower classes as servants, serfs or trash.

Sometimes I feel that way too, it depends on who you "run into" or talk to. Also I find drivers where I live to not be not so curtious on the road.
Also, you will find more people under stress during or before the holiday season, at least I do, so I find them to be more tense and emotional during that time of year.
I guess it depends on specific induviduals, some can be rude, others can be nice, it depends on their mood and personality.

I blame the popular culture. When I was young the word pregnant could not be said on TV. Now you can watch how it happens! Our culture is rude, crude and downright disgusting. Maybe more people like you can help to change it.

I know what you mean... =/ But not everyone is like that... There are a few people that honestly answer these questions to try and help people... Me? I just try to answer them or just try to comment on the question as I feel like... ;P

because our culture is allowing it to be acceptable and parents seem to think it's ok to teach our kids iresponsibility. like they think they are some saint just for keeping the kid but then let them lear nvalues off the street.... that and nobody protests when something on tv goes to far.. they just change the channel and hope things will get better.

Everyone is in such a hurry to get nowhere and most folks assume that money gives them the right to treat others badly.

Trolls are always trying to outWIT each other and see if they can get a rise out of others. It's pointless stupidity. Consider the source, they probably can't get anyone to pay attention to them in real life.

Bad parenting and a popular culture that promotes rudeness and cynicism, such as "The Family Guy"
and "The Office."
