'Ing' comes from the Anglo-Saxon 'ingas' which means 'group of people' so it might normally mean 'town of Ted's people', but Brainstorm's explanation also sounds good.

Teddington greater London was known as Tudintun in 969. and was an estate associated with a man called Tuda. That is an old English personal name- ing belonging to a family -Tun was a farm.
